How to Save Time and Money in Poznan?

Poznan is not a very big city, but it has a lot of charm and character. You can easily explore its main attractions on foot or by public transport, which is cheap and efficient.

However, Poznan is not only about that. It’s also a great place to indulge in some Spa therapies. You can find amazing spa hotels in Poznan that offer luxurious amenities and services still this day for a very reasonable price.

Imagine staying in an upscale spa hotel with massage, a sauna, a jacuzzi, a gourmet dinner and much more for the same amount than what you would pay for an average hotel room in Paris or Rome.

Are you against the luxury holiday?

That’s why my recommendation for you is splurging on the best Spa hotels and restaurants in Poznan, while you can still do it on a budget. You will get the highest quality with much more value for your money and have a memorable experience.

Trust me, you won’t regret it!

The Old Town: A Historical and Colorful Gem

Photo of Poznan city

One of the highlights of Poznan is its old town, which is full of charm and history. The old town is centered around the town square, which is one of the largest and most beautiful in Poland.

Here you can admire the Renaissance Town Hall, the colorful merchant houses, and the famous mechanical goats that butt heads every day at noon.

I find it a very interesting story about how the goats got up there! Do you know it? Please share with us on our social media channels!

However, when I visited Poznan during this summer of 2023, the town square was undergoing a major renovation, which made it less appealing and enjoyable.

There was a lot of dust, noise, mud and fences that blocked the view and access to some parts of the square. I was told that the renovation would be finished by the end of the year, and that the square would look even more stunning and cozy in 2024.

So if you are planning to visit Poznan this year, you might want to avoid the town square and explore the other parts of the old town instead.

There are many charming streets and alleys that are filled with historical buildings, monuments, churches, and museums.

You can also find some great restaurants and cafes that serve traditional Polish food and drinks.

One of the things that I loved about Poznan’s old town was its vibrant colors.

The houses were painted in different shades of blue, yellow, green, pink, and more, creating a striking contrast with the red roofs. It felt like walking in a fairy tale!

Food Culture

Lets start with desert right?  For a sweet treat in Poznan, you should definitely try their famous St. Martin’s croissant, which is a local specialty.

It is a croissant with white poppy-seed filling, traditionally prepared on the occasion of St. Martin’s Day (11 November). It has 81 layers of dough and mine was filled with cherries.

It is very sweet and delicious, and you can find it in only three bakeries around Poznan. You can even visit the Croissant Museum to learn how to make it yourself. Don’t miss it!

Another dish that I recommend you to try is their traditional pierogi (dumplings) with different fillings. Last time when i was in Poland during my trip to Krakow I went for Pierogi! Sometimes I choose the original filling with meat otherwise I choose for ones with curd or some sweet fillings.

They are very tasty and satisfying, and they vary from city to city in Poland. I especially enjoyed the traditional with meat filling in Poznan, which go well with Lech beer, brewed locally.

A bonus tip: Try hot beer in winter
Speaking of beer, did you know that Polish people drink hot beer in winter?

Yes, just like a hot wine or Glühwein. It sounds weird, but it is actually a real thing.

I had a chance to try it during one of my trips to Warsaw, and it was quite an experience. It is made with honey, spices and sometimes fruit juice.

It is supposed to warm you up and boost your immune system. Some Polish people may deny it or dislike it(at least this is my experience whenever I mention it to people from Poland!), but I think it is worth trying at least once if you visit Poland during winter times.

You may be surprised by how it tastes, if you tried it drop us a comment in our social media chanels!

Geography: A Blend of Polish and German Heritage

Photo of Poznan city

Poznan is a city in west-central Poland, near the German border. It is the capital of Greater Poland area, the birthplace of the Polish nation.

Poznan has a rich history, dating back to the 9th century, when it was one of the first Polish capitals.

Poznan was also a major trade and cultural center in Europe, but suffered from many wars and invasions.

It was part of Prussia and Germany for over a century, until it rejoined Poland after World War I.Poznan was heavily damaged during World War II, but was rebuilt and became an important industrial and academic city.

Poznan is now a modern and dynamic city that offers a variety of attractions and events. Poznan’s geography and history have given it a unique character and identity, influenced by both Polish and German cultures.

Poznan is perhaps the most diverse city in Poland, which is known for its conservative views on LGBT+ rights. Poznan is a city that welcomes and supports LGBT+ communities as well as hosting LGBT+ events!

05.

Citadel Park: A green oasis with a dark past

One of the places that impressed me the most in Poznan was Citadel Park, a large park on the site of a former Prussian fortress. The park is located just north of the Old Town, on Winiary Hill, and covers 220 acres of green space. It is a perfect place to relax, enjoy nature, and admire some amazing sculptures.

The park also has a military museum, several military cemeteries, and the remains of some of the fortifications. The fortress was largely destroyed during a fierce battle in 1945, when the Germans defended themselves for four weeks against the Soviet army.

The park is a reminder of the tragic history of Poznan, but also a symbol of its resilience and rebirth.

06.

The Imperial Castle: A royal residence turned into Hitler’s home

Another interesting place to visit in Poznan is The Imperial Castle, built for Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1910. The castle is one of the few examples of neo-Romanesque architecture in Poland, and it has a majestic appearance.

The castle was used as a royal residence until 1918, when Poland regained its independence.

However, the most shocking fact about the castle is that it was turned into Adolf Hitler’s official home during World War II. Hitler ordered to renovate the castle in his own style, and he even had a secret bunker built under it.

The castle was severely damaged during the war, but it was later restored and now serves as a cultural center.
